Myra Sherwood

Myra June (Chandler) Sherwood, 91, of Holyoke, died Nov. 13, 2021, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke. Myra was born June 13, 1930, to Opal and Ray Chandler in Kansas.
The family resided in Holyoke, and she attended Phillips County schools. After high school, Myra moved to Oregon to live with her older sister and work. While in Oregon, Myra met Lennie Hawk and they were married. The couple later moved to Evergreen. Lennie and Myra had three children: Ray, Rita and Don Hawk.
Later the couple divorced, and Myra moved to Holyoke with the three children. Myra worked mainly in clerk positions and in later years was a housewife. Myra met Orval Sherwood after moving back to eastern Colorado. The couple married, and to this union two children were born: Eddie and Lori Sherwood. The couple moved around several times, living in Crook and then Bridgeport, Nebraska, before eventually moving back to Holyoke.
Orval died and Myra continued to reside in Holyoke until 2016, when she moved to Maine to live with her daughter and family. Myra moved back to Holyoke in April 2021 so she could be at “home.” Myra moved into Regent Park nursing home in Holyoke, where she resided until her death.
Myra had a love for dancing, roller skating, horseback riding and playing cards. Later in life she enjoyed camping, boating, fishing and bingo. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Holyoke all her life.
Myra is survived by Rita and Paul Kokes of Torrington, Wyoming, and Lori and Phil Thibeault of Topsham, Maine; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Opal Chandler; husband, Orval; her three sons, Ray Hawk, Don Hawk and Eddie Sherwood; four sisters, Hope Emory, Bonnie Hogsett, Mona Bryant and Mildred Saylor; and two brothers, Wayne Chandler and Wendyl Chandler.

The funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church in Holyoke, with Pastor Mike Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Holyoke Cemetery.
