Girls lose lead in final minute of SedgCo game

The final quarter of the Thursday, Dec. 9, home matchup with Sedgwick County had Dragon fans on the edge of their seats as Holyoke was edged out in the final minute of the game, giving the Cougars the 51-49 win.

“We didn’t finish like we’re used to finishing,” said coach John Baumgartner. “It was a tough loss at home.”

“They’re a very good team,” he said of Sedgwick County, noting that Holyoke’s league is tough all the way around.

With the potential of being one of the best teams in the state, Baumgartner said, “We have to play four solid quarters.”

The Lady Dragons battled in the first half of Thursday’s game. Holyoke trailed Sedgwick County 13-10 at the end of the first quarter but came back with 20 points over the Cougars’ 14 in the second to lead 30-27 at halftime.
