Dragons sweep last week’s basketball games

Dragon basketball kept up its winning ways last week, scoring victories over Byers 61-22 on Tuesday, Dec. 7, and over Sedgwick County 65-41 on Thursday, Dec. 9.

Coach Colbey Stumpf was pleased with the team’s effort in the games.

“I thought we played really well as a team and spread the ball really well,” he said, adding that the bench was able to get a lot of minutes in the Byers game, which will help them in the long run.

He said the Dragons came out really well-prepared against Sedgwick County. He noted that there were times in the game where the Dragons looked really good and times that showed where they need to improve, specifically passing and defense.

“I would rather have those glimpses in a win rather than in a game where we need every possession and every point possible,” he said.

Looking forward, he acknowledged that Haxtun and Wray are solid opponents, and the Dragons will emphasize fast play and good transition offense and defense to hold them in check.

“With two very big games this week, we want to play hard and with emotion but also keep that emotion in check and play our game,” Stumpf said.
