Summer Martin qualifies for state

Summer Martin took first place in the 500-yard freestyle at the Liberty Common Quad on Thursday, Jan. 13, to qualify for 3A state swimming in the event.

Tayla Martin, who has already qualified for state in the 100-yard butterfly, the 50-yard freestyle and in the 400-yard freestyle relay along with teammates Summer Martin, Adison Goldenstein and Josie Schlachter, also qualified in the 100-yard freestyle with her first-place finish in the event at Thompson Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Coach Emily Krogmeier is pleased with how the Lady Dragons are performing.

“I am very proud of these girls,” she said. “They are pushing through their bodies being tired and still performing very well. They are putting in the effort and are constantly working to improve.”

At Thompson Valley, the Lady Dragons won the dual against Estes Park 98-58, and they lost the dual against Thompson Valley 124-52.

At the Liberty Common Quad, Holyoke defeated Valley 95-40, lost to Liberty Common 129-48 and lost to Eaton 102-66.

Krogmeier noted that the girls’ times are showing the growth, and that it is fun to watch the girls cheer each other on during the meets.

Moving forward, she said the girls will be working on refining some of the smaller parts of races, such as turns and underwater streamlines.
