Hospital foundation’s Legacy Event auction a chance to give back in unique way
When someone buys an item at an auction, they would generally expect to take something home with them. In the case of Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Legacy Event, a very special auction item will give people the chance to give back to their community.
Included on the Feb. 12 list of auction items will be three 10.2-inch iPads with Wi-Fi and smart keyboards. The value is approximately $1,600 total. An individual or group of people will have the opportunity to bid on this item and then in turn donate it back to Melissa Memorial Hospital.
The foundation gave MMH department managers a chance to nominate items for the board’s consideration for the 2022 auction. Items not selected have been placed in the MMHF giving opportunities packet that donors can look at when making donations.
“Holyoke EMS is going digital,” said EMS Director Troy Kinoshita in his application.
“With the acquisition of these devices, EMS personnel will be able to be mobile while doing their daily duties when not responding to calls.
“While providing service for 911 and interfacility transport is our number one priority, EMS personnel have a multitude of other duties to do during the day. The use of iPads will bring Holyoke EMS into the digital world. The iPads will facilitate the new software that was purchased this year.
“This software includes ‘Target Solutions,’ which allows EMS personnel to track and record training, track and document the use of controlled substances, provide real time numbers for inventory of supplies and certificate tracking, daily vehicle checks/maintenance, among a host of other things.
“We have also purchased ‘Handtevy,’ an app based pediatric care platform. This app will be utilized by all EMS personnel and available to Emergency Department staff.
“Holyoke EMS is also responsible for many of the safety and emergency preparedness goals of MMH. iPads will be utilized to document monthly testing of fire extinguishers, emergency lighting and various safety drills such as fire and tornado.”
Nancy Colglazier, MMHF executive director, said this is the sixth year MMHF has offered Legacy Event attendees the chance to give back through unique auction items.
A hi-lo exam table was purchased for the physical therapy department last year, two transport chairs in 2020, a medication waste disposal unit in 2019, a surgical head lamp in 2018 and two pediatric packs for the EMS department in 2017.
