Girls continue winning streak
The Holyoke Lady Dragon basketball team scored two more wins at a crucial time in the season during home games with Yuma on Friday, Feb. 4, and Merino on Saturday, Feb. 5.
“These were two good wins to end the season at home,” said coach John Baumgartner. The last three games of the regular season are all away.
In Friday’s game against Yuma, the Lady Dragons played a great first half. They led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter and 32-18 at halftime.
However, a turnover resulted in a buzzer-beater shot for Yuma at the end of the second quarter, and it gave the Indians some momentum heading into the second half of the game.
“It was not a great third quarter,” said Baumgartner. Yuma outscored Holyoke 11-3, lessening the Lady Dragons’ lead to 35-29.
Baumgartner said the girls responded in the fourth quarter, putting up 15 points over Yuma’s six for a solid 50-35 win.
