Merino wins both in weekend baseball doubleheader
Another windy day of baseball is in the books for the Holyoke Dragons after traveling to Merino for their April 23 doubleheader. The Rams won the first game 16-1 in four innings. The second game did go to seven innings, but the Dragons ultimately lost 8-0.
Coach Jimmy French noted that, in spite of the scores, he thought Holyoke played well.
“Merino was a very good team, and the weather was not ideal, but we made a lot of positive plays even though there were a few mistakes here and there,” he said.

Tyson Mosenteen led off the first inning with a single. Reid Sprague had a sacrifice bunt that moved Mosenteen all the way to third. Ty Sandquist Dirks drove him in with a single, and the Dragons went into the bottom of the first with a 1-0 lead. The Rams racked up three runs during their turn at bat, and the lead swung their way.
Despite occasionally threatening in subsequent innings, the Dragons were unable to score again. Merino added three runs to the scoreboard in the second inning, three in the third and seven in the fourth.
