Master Chorale concert opens Dec. 11 in Sterling
The Master Chorale of Sterling, under the direction of Don Johnson, will present their 30th Christmas concert at Dorothy Corsberg Theater in E.S. French Hall on the Northeastern Junior College campus, Sunday, Dec. 11 at 4 p.m.
The singers will be accompanied by Mary C. Smith, Northeastern Junior College adjunct professor of piano, as well as a 16-piece symphony of electric organ, strings, brass and woodwinds. The concert will begin on a triumphant “Gloria and Alleluia,” with brass and strings, from Daniel Pinkham’s “Christmas Cantata.” The second piece will be a solo and response version of “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl, featuring tenor soloists Gerald Skaggs and Jason McGlaughlin. Next will be “O Clap Your Hands” by Vaughn Williams.
The Sterling High School Jazz Choir, under the direction and accompaniment of Annette Lambrecht, will then come on stage and sing two selections from “The Greatest Showman,” by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul: “Come Alive” and “This Is Me.” Both choirs will finish the first part by joining together to perform the famous Ukrainian Christmas song, “Carol of the Bells,” arranged by Freddie Mercury.
During the intermission, there will be a special performance by a Piano Quartet featuring Mary C. Smith, Jennifer Linn-Leaf, Emilyn Singer and Nita Gillham playing “The Bells of Christmas Medley,” which will present six well-known Christmas songs arranged for these four instruments by Joel Raney.
