At the Jan. 2 Holyoke City Council meeting, council members decided to move forward with accepting credit card payments at the city office.
Ramon Manuel Calzadillas was named the first baby of 2018 at Sterling Regional MedCenter. Ramon, born Jan. 4, is the son of Hector and Yahaira Calzadillas.

After nearly a year and a half of construction, the congregation of First Baptist Church of Holyoke is ready to make the move to the new church facility at 1000 E. Johnson St. The first official services will be held there this weekend, Jan. 19-20.
Phillips County residents can now self-register cellphones and email addresses to receive emergency notifications, announced Kenny Gaskill, director of Phillips County Communications Center.

The mapping system that was barely more than an idea a few years ago is now up and running in Phillips County. According to Randy Schafer, Phillips County administrative assistant, the county purchased a PC and three pieces of software to put the county maps on computer. Existing hand-drafted maps were electronically scanned to include basis information, and more intricate information is being added by Tish Werner from the assessor’s office.
Duane Wyatt is in the process of purchasing a building to base his veterinary practice out of. The mobile vet clinic, the Critter Care-a-van, will include home visits and care for small animals.
Phillips County hospitals and pre-hospital emergency medical personnel are participating in a nine-county region to improve care for severely injured accident victims. The nine-county region has been established as part of a new Colorado law that sets up a trauma system throughout the state.

At approximately 5:50 p.m. yesterday, a propane heater exploded in one of the units at the Holyoke senior citizen housing project, tearing out one wall and severely damaging two others. William Lakin and James Drescher, Holyoke teachers who were working in the unit at the time of the explosion, were severely burned about the face and hands.
Milder weather has prevailed in the area during the past week and has allowed some harvest of beets and corn.

Supposedly two boys, one of whom was an escapee from the Boys Industrial School in Golden who was sent there from Phillips County last August, stole a pickup at Golden, abandoned it in Denver, stole a 1946 Plymouth sedan, drove it to Holyoke and then stole a 1938 Ford sedan belonging to Paul Mathews last Saturday night. From Holyoke, they drove 1 mile west of the Sprague Brothers farm and abandoned the Plymouth, stole a Ford truck and traveled toward Amherst, where they had trouble with the truck and abandoned it, and went on in Mathews car.
Farm property in Phillips County is now worth more than $12,128,000, and rural homes here and throughout the state are in the best condition in history, according to a report just released by the Title Council of America. More than 82% of farm dwellings in Colorado and the Western states are in excellent condition or need only such minor repairs as painting or general maintenance.
