
Holyoke Enterprise File Photo Preparations for the 2003 Phillips County Fair are underway at the fairgrounds as members of Phillips County Road District 2 put up a new announcer’s box in the arena. The crew took down the old box and put the new one up in May 2003.

Holyoke School Superintendent John McCleary’s resignation was accepted by the Board of Education at its March 6 meeting. Current Holyoke Elementary School Principal Kyle Stumpf was then named the sole finalist for the superintendent position, starting July 1.
Two of Holyoke’s Boy Scout Troop 32 and Cub Scout Pack 32 leaders — Andrea McCallum and Sasha Lopez — have been honored with district-level recognition for their enthusiasm, energy and commitment to keeping local Scouting alive. Additionally, the Holyoke Lions Club received an award for being the Chartered Organization of the Year.

Julie Worley is still getting her feet wet as she just finished up her first month as the new Phillips County Economic Development executive director. She is replacing Jeff Weaver, who occupied the position from September to November.
High winds accompanied 2.1 inches of snow, causing low visibility in parts of Holyoke on Saturday, March 9. Rain began Friday night, eventually turning into a snowstorm that lasted until Saturday evening.

Recycling in Holyoke will continue — at least for the rest of the year. Even though Yuma Recycling is closing its doors, arrangements have been made for recyclables to be picked up from Holyoke Recycles for the remainder of 1998.
A swap of land between the city and developer Dale O’Neal was proposed ad approved at a special meeting of the Holyoke City Council on March 10. Promoters said the trade would “clean up some messes.” It passed, but not without some confusion and contention.
Holyoke fifth and sixth grade students got to experience a unique “hands-on” lesson in free enterprise at Rural AmeriTowne in Wray last week.
