Sgt. Mark Werts of Holyoke Police Department led a crime scene investigation training in Holyoke on April 9, providing various law enforcement agencies an opportunity to review and practice what they already know.
Arickaree superintendent/principal Shane Walkinshaw will start as principal at Holyoke JR/SR High on July 1, with the retirement of current principal Susan Ortner.
Prioritizing the safety of citizens and firefighters, Holyoke City Council committed $2,500 to the purchase of ice rescue equipment for Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department at the April 4 city council meeting.

Huge trees were uprooted, airport hangars blew away, buildings were leveled, a semi overturned, and much of the town lost power Monday evening, April 8, when a spring storm roared into Holyoke.
After serving as the Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union president for 28 years, Ron Goldenstein officially clocked out for the last time on March 29 and is looking forward to the change of pace that retirement will offer.
José Gonzalez and Alicia Ruiz recently purchased Amanda’s Mercado, located at 430 E. Denver St., from Ramon Dominguez and officially began their new positions as owners and managers of the newly named Gonzalez Mercado on March 8.

At 1 a.m. on Easter Sunday, Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department was called to put out the second structure fire in Holyoke in the last five months. The fire, which consumed the south side of an apartment house in the 700 block of South Baxter Avenue, caused a fair amount of structure damage.
Monse Conde III is bringing a new business to the city of Holyoke, Conde’s Quality Detailing, which includes all types of cleaning detailing. The detailing shop is located at 428 E. Denver St. next to Stage Cuts.
Dr. Frank Lucero has accepted the position of superintendent for the Limon School District and consequently will be resigning his post as principal at Holyoke High School on June 30.

Arkie’s Sales and Service, owned and operated by George Arkulari for the past several years, has been purchased by Dudden John Deere Implement of Venango, Nebraska.
The Holyoke Community Federal Credit Union announced today that it has total assets of $1,012,911.87, with a membership of 718. The local credit union was congratulated on becoming a million-dollar member by the Colorado Credit Union League in its monthly paper, Credit Union Facts.
Late last Friday night, the area was hit by a new snowstorm accompanied by strong winds that brought an additional 6-8 inches of new snow and caused considerable drifting before it subsided late Saturday night. Field preparations and planting of spring crops, already limited by wet, muddy fields, were brought to a complete standstill with the latest storm.

April 15, 1948
A raging prairie fire which originated last Saturday morning on the land of W.E. Heginbotham, 7 miles south of town and west of Highway 51, claimed the lives of three Phillips County men and one Kansas boy and burned over an estimated 50,000 acres of prairie grass and sandhill land before it was finally brought under control in northeastern Yuma County early Sunday morning.
Arrangements have been made with Bob Kramer at Bob’s Service Station for all persons who have scoops or shovels that do not belong to them to take them to the station. Anyone who lost shovels or scoops at the fire may call at the station and look over the collection and pick out their property.
A produce truck owned by Adelman Produce of Denver turned over on Highway 6, 2 miles west of Dailey, Wednesday morning, causing an estimated $400 damage to the truck and 50% loss of eggs with which it was loaded. The truck was carrying 260 cases of eggs valued at $2,000.
