Alene E. Larsen was born Feb. 19, 1934, in Centerville, Utah. She was the daughter of Ralph and Evelyn Nuzman. Alene passed quietly at Regent Park on Oct. 30, 2017.
Alene lived a full life and related stories of living through the Great Depression. In her youth, she and her sister were on a synchronized swimming team and she worked at a soda and candy shop. Later, Alene earned a beautician license and began a 45-year career. She met her husband, Fred Larsen, whom she was married to for over 60 years, and lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, the majority of her life.
Alene and Fred enjoyed participating in activities together. They joined an archery club (DATUS) and a bowling league where they made many lifelong friends. Alene really enjoyed going to the archery club’s summer camp, invitationals and bow hunting each year.
She also served as secretary for many of the organizations they participated in. She kept records for the Western Boys baseball team and for the bowling league.
She especially loved traveling and made a point to go on a family summer vacation every year. Her family will always remember the many fishing trips they went on together.
In 2002, Fred and Alene moved to Holyoke. Alene enjoyed all the holidays and making decorations for her friends and family. She crocheted tablecloths, decorated shirts and made beautiful porcelain dolls. During the holidays, she would transform her house with the decorations she made.
The Fourth of July was the holiday she loved to host. The family would gather at her house to enjoy some fresh watermelon and then sit in lawn chairs in her front yard to watch the fireworks together. Her heart was always filled with her family and service for the community.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves behind her sister, Barbra Mathews of California; son, Ray Larsen of Minnesota; daughter, Kristina Ham of Holyoke; grandchildren, Lance Larsen, BreAnne Richins, KrisAnna Ham and Kaylee Ham; and great-grandchildren, Nathan Larsen, Samuel Larsen, Jacob Larsen, Danielle Larsen, Hazel Richins, Lucie Richins and Chloe Richins.
