Chris Bieber

Chris Henry Bieber was born April 2, 1931, in Sedgwick at the home of his parents, John and Dora Sinner Reuter Bieber. He died at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke on Jan. 4, 2022, at the age of 90 years and 9 months.
Chris was married to Janice May Intermill Bieber on Dec. 12, 1955, at the Presbyterian Church in Sedgwick. They had five children: Debra, Chris Wayne, Rocky, and twins Barbara and Brenda.
During Chris’ sophomore year in high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was awarded a letter and commendation for his outstanding performance with the USS Philippine Sea during the Korean War. He completed his GED while serving in the military. He returned home to continue his lifelong career of farming sugar beets, and Chris was awarded a High Ten Sugar Beet Grower for many years. He also raised beans and corn.
Chris enjoyed gardening and was especially proud of his cucumbers. He enjoyed working with metal in his shop and reading about history.
During his life he enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch, which he enjoyed playing every Sunday with his great-granddaughter, Taylor Woodhams. He enjoyed watching Western movies and listening to Johnny Cash. He kept up with farm markets and enjoyed having all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit on the farm and “hanging” out at the Pumpkins and More pumpkin patch.
Chris is survived by his wife, Janice of the home; sisters-in-law, Catherine Reuter of Broomfield, Dorothy Reuter of Plymouth, California, and Mildred Bieber of Big Springs, Nebraska; five children, 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren including Debra and Alan Colglazier of Holyoke, Eric Nickell of Holyoke, Kory and Michelle Nickell and Mateo of Rosenberg, Texas, Jaydin and Emily Goldenstein of Severence, Taylor and Cody Woodhams of Ovid, Trey Bennett and Shaylin McClellen of Bennett, Chris Wayne and Susan Bieber of Holyoke, Rocky and Barbara Bieber of Holyoke, Jackie and Toby Thompson and Emma of Holyoke, Brett and Heather Bieber and Aubrey, Laityn and Brayger of Holyoke, Lindsay and Bryce Boerner and Jayce, Mason and Kelbin of Haxtun, Barbara and Gary Hart of Ulysses, Kansas, Leslie and Derek Lorlovick of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Charles Hart of Ulysses, Brenda and Rick Daniel of Holyoke, Dylon and Brittany Daniel and Brodyn and Dawsyn of Holyoke, Travis and Carly Daniel and Haeden Mae and Kort of Holyoke, Emily Daniel and Sophia, Mila and Eli of Holyoke, and Annie Daniel and Michael Bastin of Holyoke; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dora; granddaughter, Leah Nickell Bennett; grandson, Christopher William John Bieber; and siblings, Dan and Marge Reuter, Walt Reuter, Alex Reuter, Elsie and Jake Gross, Lily and Alex Sittner, John and Velma Bieber, Albert and Lois Bieber, Robert and Phyllis Bieber, Reinhold Bieber, Harold Bieber, Rose and Jake Hofsetz, Carey and Tony Petrillo, Helen and Carl Royce, and Pauline and Ralph Evans.
The funeral was held Jan. 8 at Baucke Funeral Home, with interment following at the Holyoke Cemetery. Dan Kafka of Holyoke Church of Christ was the officiating minister.
Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
