Christine Heermann

Christine Joanne Heermann died peacefully May 12, 2020, in Evergreen. She passed at home with her family by her side. Christine bravely fought cancer for nearly a year and a half, but more importantly, lived a full life for 61 years.

Christine was born June 7, 1958, in Julesburg to Audrey and Deane Murray. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amherst. During high school, Christine was a cheerleader and competed at the state level on the track team. After high school, Christine earned an associate degree at Northeastern Junior College and moved to Fort Collins where she worked at a local community bank.

In 1980, Christine married Eldon Heermann, her high school sweetheart whom she had known since fourth grade. Eldon and Christine spent much of their 20s working on their family farm in the summers and as ski instructors at the Loveland Ski Resort during the winters.

Christine was highly active in the family farming business, from driving the grain cart during harvest to helping make consequential business decisions. While the family farm was important to her, Christine’s family was the center of her life. She demonstrated a deep love and unwavering commitment to her family. Christine’s children and their friends still fondly remember the elaborate birthday parties she threw during their childhoods.

Christine enjoyed living in a small town, participating in women’s golf league with her close friends, being active in the county fair and the many other events that would occur throughout the year. Christine was an active member of the Lutheran churches in Holyoke and Amherst. She was active with the TRUST group as a youth leader at St. Paul’s in Amherst, where she made countless meals over the years. Earlier on, Christine was a treasurer of the Women of Zion in Holyoke, where she also taught Sunday Bible school.

In late 2016, Eldon and Christine decided to retire and move to Evergreen. They shared several happy years together in Evergreen, where they quickly became friends with their neighbors and active members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Christine is remembered for her joyful laugh, quick wit and the happiness she brought out in others.

Christine is survived by her husband, Eldon Heermann; children, Justin Heermann and Sarah Heermann; mother, Audrey Murray; siblings, Richard and wife Jodi Murray, Diane and husband Steve Armour, and Scott and wife Sharon Murray; and nine nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Deane Murray, and her nephew, Regan Murray.

A graveside service was held May 16 at the Holyoke Cemetery. The family intends to host an open celebration of life once social distancing measures ease.
