Clair Pillard, age 89, died Aug. 30, 2019, in Brush, surrounded by his loving family. Clair was born to Paul and Bessie Pillard in Holyoke on April 3, 1930.

Clair grew up in the farming community helping his parents. On June 22, 1952, he married Ruth A. Hiatt from Imperial, Nebraska. They eventually acquired land of their own to farm south of Haxtun until they moved into town in 1971.

Clair worked at various places throughout the years, including the Paoli grain elevator, his own automotive repair shop, and the Phillips County road and bridge department. Between 1978 and 1983 he held the office of sheriff of Phillips County.

Clair enjoyed many hobbies. He loved to fish, golf and bowl. He had a strong interest in antique tractors, cars and trucks. Clair also loved to collect old coins. But more importantly, it was very obvious he loved to farm, and he rarely missed a day at coffee with his “buddies.” Clair was a loving husband and dedicated father to four children.

Clair is survived by his children, Stan and Barb of Brush, Beckie Hogan of Sterling, and Todd and Rhonda of Greeley; sisters, Eva Callon of Colorado Springs and Delores Barker of Wray; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Clair was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter at birth, Carla; son, Randy; brothers, Delton, Ray, Merle, Norval and Sterling; and grandson, Shane.

Funeral services were held Sept. 5 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Haxtun. Burial followed at the Haxtun Cemetery.

Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
