Cora Clayton

    Cora Clayton, 90, of Holyoke, died June 12, 2018. She was born in Holyoke on Jan. 17, 1928, daughter of the late James and Helen Burns.
    She attended a country elementary school near Amherst, Holyoke High School, and University of Northern Colorado for a period of time before marrying Willard Clayton on May 23, 1948.
    Cora kept the business books and was a diligent and faithful partner with her late husband Willard on their farm. For a short period of time, she also worked as a teacher’s aide at Holyoke Elementary School.
    She was an active long-time member of First Baptist Church of Holyoke.
    Cora enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She was an excellent gardener and fabulous cook, as well as a meticulous housekeeper. She enjoyed canning and freezing the fruits of her gardening labors.
    She is survived by her two children, Patricia Rue and Mark Clayton and their spouses; four grandchildren, Sarah Rue, Elizabeth Koehl, Angela Powell and Justin Clayton and their spouses; and eight great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard; daughter-in-law, Sherrie Clayton; and three grandsons, Adam, Jack and Ethan Rue Dunstan.
    The funeral service was held June 18 at First Baptist Church in Holyoke, with Pastor Gordon Penfold officiating. Interment followed at the Holyoke Cemetery.
    Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Holyoke or charity of choice.
    Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
