Eufracia “Frey” or “Tia” Secrist, 86, died June 5, 2018, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke. Frey, born July 13, 1931, in Longmont to Francisco and Guadalupe (Martinez) Garcia, moved to Holyoke in 1969 and became a lifelong resident, where she was a valued and revered member of the community.
Frey entered her first marriage in October of 1952 to Paul Aguiniga, and from this union she was blessed with two children: Stanley Aguiniga and Stephanie (Aguiniga) Noyes. After moving to Holyoke, Frey met and married Darcy Secrist, their union taking place in Sterling. Their marriage began in October of 1975 and continued until the passing of Darcy on Feb. 23, 1998. In 2002, Eufracia met and began a committed relationship with Don Jacobs until her death. Frey and her companion Don shared their home with her two “fur babies,” Max and Cinnamon.
Frey devoted her life to family and friends and was described as being loving, kind at heart, a go-getter who was always on the move, and a real people person. She also wore many hats during her lifetime, besides daughter, sister, mother, grandma and wife, and had various jobs to help support her family. But the two jobs that always stood out to her were the positions she held at the Bolton House in Denver and Melissa Memorial Hospital. It was in those positions she was able to practice what she loved so much: helping others. Frey would talk often about the fond memories she had of the people she helped in both places. Anyone who met Frey would say she truly loved and cared for all people.
Not only will Frey be fondly remembered for the many acts of kindness she performed, but her friends and family will remember her love of the outdoors, specifically working in her flower gardens, music, singing, storytelling, love of animals and her gift of “gab.” Frey’s family fondly teased her about her love of talk, but it was in this gift she was able to say she never met a stranger. Frey left a beautiful lasting impression on all who came in contact with her.
Frey died 38 days before she reached the age of 87, the age she told everyone she was going to live to like her mom.
Eufracia was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco “Frank” and Guadalupe “Lupe” Garcia; brother, Gilbert Garcia; husbands, Darcy Secrist and Paul Aguiniga; stepson, Danny Secrist; nephew, Gilbert Garcia Jr.; nieces, Annie “Happy” Perez and Clara Lynn “Lynn” Morin; great-niece, Maria-Elena Hankins; and Tim Tyerman, Stephanie’s longtime companion.
She is survived by her sister, Clara Jo Garcia; children, Stanley Aguiniga and Mary Warner and Stephanie Noyes; stepchildren, Walter, Daryl and Darwin Secrist and Cindy Moreno; grandchildren, Jason and Ashleigh Noyes and Leah and Nick Spady, Joshua, Justin and Alisha Warner, and Joshua Watkins; great-grandchildren, Alexa, Landon, Jace, Jagger and Mason; and many other family and friends.
Visitation and rosary service was held June 10 at Baucke Funeral Home in Holyoke. The funeral Mass was held June 11 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke. Eufracia was laid to rest next to her mother, father and brother in the Ovid Cemetery.
Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
