Gene Harmon

Ronald Gene Harmon, second son of Fred and Marie Harmon, was born Oct. 26, 1931, on the family farm southwest of Champion, Nebraska. The community was known as Lamont, Nebraska. He died and went to his eternal home with Jesus on Oct. 16, 2021, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke.

He attended grade school in rural Chase County and graduated from Chase County High School in 1949. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and served in the Korean conflict for two years.

Upon his return home, he married Royce Kimble. They spent the next 67 years raising their family, gardening and enjoying retirement after owning and operating a service station and repair shop and working on irrigation motors.

Weekends found Gene hunting or fishing with friends or tying flies and melting lead for sinkers to take along to fishing club in Ogallala, Nebraska. He enjoyed teaching young people to tie flies at Cabela’s in Sidney, Nebraska, on special occasions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Marie Harmon; an infant sister; brother, Raymond; and his wife, Royce, in August of this year.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen and husband Bart Harlen of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; son, Mike and wife Donette of Wray; son, Tom of Manhattan, Kansas; brother, Lester Harmon of Imperial, Nebraska; sister, Bonnie Smith of Holyoke; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; and nieces, nephews and many friends.

Gene chose cremation with no service.
