Genevieve Tomky

    Genevieve Lila (Wulfe­kuhle) Tomky was born March 16, 1933, in Hazelton, Iowa, to Henry and Viola (Schemmel) Wulfekuhle, one of nine children. She died June 4, 2017, at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial, Nebraska. She was 84 years of age.
    As a young lady, Genevieve attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and District 66 County School in Breckenridge, Minnesota. She went on to graduate from Elbow Lake High School in Elbow Lake, Minnesota, in 1952.
    Genevieve was employed by the Heiland Research Division of Minneapolis Honeywell in Denver as an accountant. She also worked for General Mills in the accounts payable department.
    Genevieve married Wilford Duane Tomky Dec. 27, 1961, at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church in Elbow Lake, and to this union four children were born: Jim, Bill, Susan and Ken.
    The couple settled in Olney Springs, where they farmed until moving to the Lamar, Nebraska, area in 1972. Genevieve and Wilford made the Lamar area their home, farming and raising their children.
    Genevieve was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Imperial and Holyoke. She was a member of Altar Society in both churches, served on the deanery and was an active CCD teacher.
    She enjoyed gardening, canning food, assisting with 4-H and bookkeeping. Genevieve especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    She is survived by her husband, Wilford of Lamar; sons, Jim Tomky and wife Mary of Amherst, Bill Tomky and wife Christine of Lamar, and Ken Tomky and wife Janet of Lamar; daughter, Susan Castle and husband Larry of Imperial; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Ramsey and husband Aaron, A.J. Tomky and wife  Katie, Elizabeth Tomky, Joseph Tomky, Mindy Castle, Dawn Castle, Evan Tomky and Aidan Tomky; seven great-grandchildren, Logan, Kammi, Jaxon, Ilysa, Amy, Heidi and Luke; sisters, Donna Spellerberg of Ligerwood, North Dakota, Lovie Brough and husband Bruce of New Brighton, Minnesota, Karey Mackey of Waverly, Kentucky, and Joyce Swends­rud and husband Don of Monticello, Minnesota.
    Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leo, Jim and Chuck; and sister, Virginia Miller.
    Visitation will be held Monday, June 12, 2-6 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Holyoke.
    Rosary will be held Monday, June 12, at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Holyoke, with Father Bill Jungmann and Father Bernard Lorenz reciting.
    A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, June 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Holyoke, with Father Bill Jungmann and Father Bernard Lorenz officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at the Green Lawn Cemetery in Lamar.
    A memorial has been established to EWTN Catholic Radio.
