Gladys Tharp
Gladys Irene Tharp died and was called to the Lord on Sept. 15, 2021, at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant, Nebraska. Gladys was born April 13, 1920, to Elmer and Hazel Kent in Imperial, Nebraska.
She was married to Charles Tharp on Oct. 9, 1938. During their 66 years of marriage, they went to dances, played cards, went golfing, traveled and went to Arizona in the winters.
Gladys worked alongside Charles during his many years as an auctioneer, especially during the annual Tharp’s machinery auction.
Gladys started every day reading the Bible, praying and saying, “ This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
She spent her life loving the Lord and his people. Gladys spent many hours volunteering for her church, and her joyful personality touched many lives of all ages. She loved singing in the choir.
She painted nails for the ladies in the nursing home until late in her 80s. She helped start the Cub Scouts in Grant. She cherished her Eastern Star years. She willingly helped out whenever called by anyone. Gladys will be remembered for her years running the Tharp’s Drive Inn, where many students were given a chance for a job.
Later in life, she enjoyed playing cards with fellow residents at Westview, watching the Rockies games and reading. She loved making and giving away her peanut butter balls. People could feel her faith in whatever she did.
Gladys treasured family the most — all of them, anytime, anywhere, doing whatever they wanted. She traveled with them, went to ballgames, played cards, laughed and enjoyed them all. She particularly loved the family reunions in various places where they all gathered.
Exceptional support was given by her nephew and wife, Mike and Sandy Leahy.
Survivors include three daughters and one son, Dee Ann Dubbert and Riley of Holyoke, Dee Etta Long of Fort Collins, Kenton Tharp and Bonnie of Amherst, Massachusetts, and Charlene Cromwell and John of Yankton, South Dakota; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Gladys in death were her parents, husband, sister, brother, grandchild and many friends.
Memorials can be directed to the Grant Methodist Church or the Westview Retirement Community.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m., at the Grant Methodist Church, with Pastor Joey Flores officiating. Inurnment will be in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.
