Janice Mae (Livingston) Bjorklun was born April 1, 1938, to Ernest and Irene (Dinsmore) Livingston. She died and entered eternal life Feb. 24, 2017, at North Colorado Medical Center due to complications from a vehicle accident.
    A graduate of Haxtun High school in 1956, she was a lifelong resident of Haxtun. She attended Colorado A & M in Fort Collins.
    Jan married August Bjorklun Nov. 16, 1957. They had two girls, Tamara and Patsy. She was active in her community as a 4-H leader, a member of PEO, church organist, music teacher, United Methodist Women member and Lions Club member. Her career as treasurer and city clerk for the Town of Haxtun spanned 25 years.
    Jan played organ for the Brethren Church throughout her high school years, and then for the Methodist Church in Haxtun for over 50 years. Volunteering at the nursing home, Jan often played music for the residents. She was known for her musical abilities, teaching many young people in the community to play both the piano and organ.
    Jan, along with her husband, was awarded the Quiet Disciple Award from the Haxtun Methodist Church, where she was a member for 48 years.
    Jan was instrumental in writing grants, making presentations and raising funds to build the Haxtun Community Center. The building of the center was a highlight in her career while employed by the Town of Haxtun.
    Jan was known for being an avid reader and painter. She owned and operated the Hobby Hut for several years and taught ceramics classes. She painted nativity sets for many family members and friends. She loved Columbines and hummingbirds.
    Her grandchildren and great-grandchild were the joy of her life. Her famous birthday and holiday boxes were highly anticipated arrivals throughout the family!
    Jan is survived by her husband of 59 years, August; daughter, Tamara Allen and husband Jay of Dove Creek; daughter, Patsy Burenheide and husband Gary of Johns­town; sister, Shirley Inge and husband Bill of Medford, Oregon; grandchildren, Grant Allen of Dove Creek, Natasha Allen and Jade Huskey of Cahone, and Kyle Burenheide and Brandii Burenheide of Johnstown; great-grandson, Braxten Newkirk of Cahone; and numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.
    Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Irene Livingston; and sister, Judy Kain.
    Funeral services were held Feb. 28 at the Haxtun United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeri Soens officiating. Interment followed at the Haxtun Cemetery.
    Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
    Memorial contributions may be made in Janice’s memory to the Haxtun United Methodist Church, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America or a charity of the donor’s choice.
