Janice Beck, 74, of Holyoke, died Sept. 22, 2020, at her home in Holyoke.

Janice was born Aug. 18, 1946, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Edward and Marjorie (Stucker) Gartner. She graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1964.

On Dec. 22, 1968, Janice married Garen Beck at the Elsie Methodist Church. Janice made her home in Sterling for a few years while Garen served in the military. Following his discharge, the couple moved south of Grainton, Nebraska, before moving south of Wallace, Nebraska, in 1972. They eventually made their home in Holyoke, where they lived the rest of their married lives.

Janice worked at the Logan County Hospital in the kitchen for eight years. She then owned and operated Beck’s Bargain Barn in Holyoke.

Janice’s true passion was for children. She was a licensed day care provider for nearly 40 years and provided foster care for many of those years concurrently.

Janice loved cooking, reading and watching television. She had a passion for caring for children and did so with her whole heart.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Garen; parents; stepfather, Vern Bruce; brother, Gary Gartner; parents-in-law, Elmer and Mildred Beck; and sister-in-law, Sharon and Ellis Gibbs.

Janice is survived by her children, Derek Beck of Fort Collins, Shaun and wife Justina Beck of Holyoke, Phillip and wife Nicole Beck of Harrisburg, Nebraska, Tami and husband Ed Glennemeier of Holyoke, and Julie and husband Tom Andersen of Holyoke; a foster daughter Janice considered very special, Nicole Long of Ogallala, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Kanyon and Tobin Moore, Braxton Beck, Dustin Andersen, Riley Beck and Brittany Hoilien; and seven great-grandchildren and soon-to-be great-grandson, Bensyn Moore. Survivors also include her siblings, Chuck Gartner of Chadron, Nebraska, Michel Gartner of Grant, Nebraska, Audrey and Danny Martin of Grant, and Bill and Ellen Gartner of Crawford, Nebraska; stepbrother, Gary Bruce of Montana; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Janice’s memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com.

Services were held Sept. 26 at the Grant United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Rahe officiating. Interment was in the Wallace Morning View Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant was in charge of arrangements.
