Joe Paloucek Jr. of Denver died Feb. 11, 2020, at home at the age of 90. Joe was born March 17, 1929, to Joe and Anna Paloucek at a home in Ogallala, Nebraska, with the help of a midwife.

He and his father milked 22 cows and delivered milk to customers in Ogallala before school each morning. He graduated from Ogallala High School in 1947. He then attended Colorado Agricultural College, now CSU. Joe was an Army veteran, having served as a refrigeration specialist in the Korean War from 1951-1953.

Joe married Lois Marie Drews in Ogallala on Valentine’s Day in 1954. They are the parents of three daughters: Susan, Linda and Janet.

After returning from the Army, Joe farmed with his father until moving to Big Springs, Nebraska, to continue farming. In 1965 he moved his family to the Holyoke area, where he farmed with his brother, Frank Paloucek, until retiring in 1993.

Joe loved fishing, reading and traveling. He shared his passions with his family and friends. Joe lived in his cabin in Alaska each summer to catch salmon and halibut. He would play cribbage and tell stories with his brother, Frank. He taught his children and grandchildren how to fish for the big ones.

Joe traveled the world, visiting fascinating places and enjoying their cultures. He enjoyed each and every adventure.

Joe married Patricia Schneller on March 19, 2003. They enjoyed traveling and their homes in Arizona and Alaska.

Joe was a lifelong learner. He encouraged education and all its opportunities. He exemplified being a wonderful father, citizen and human being. He constantly encouraged you to become the best person possible.

Joe’s mother immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia at age 16. His grandparents were also immigrants. He understood and appreciated the opportunities this country provides.

Joe was preceded in death by Lois and his daughter, Linda.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; his daughters, Susan of Denver and Janet of Gulf Shores, Alabama; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen.
