Joel Rojo Macias, age 57, died at his home in the early morning of Oct. 24, 2022. Joel was born June 21, 1965, to Manuel Jesus Rojo and Augustina Macias.

Joel attended school in Chihuahua, Mexico. He moved to Portalis, New Mexico, in 1982 and worked as a farm laborer at a peanut farm for six years. He then moved to Friona, Texas, and worked for Excel Packing Plant as a loading manager for 17 years. Lastly, he moved to Holyoke, where he worked for Seaboard Foods for 19 years as an animal caretaker.

Joel met his future wife and best friend, Shawn, in June 2003. The two were joined together in marriage on March 11, 2015, at the Holyoke Church of Christ. Joel loved spending time with and spoiling his wife and grandchildren.

He appreciated the time he got to spend working on his hobby farm and raising a few animals. He enjoyed working on cars and pickups as well. And he always loved a good deal.

In his younger years, Joel enjoyed riding and racing BMX bikes, as well as riding into town everyday with his younger brother. Joel had a deep love for his family and thoroughly enjoyed every moment he had with them.

Joel is survived by his wife Shawn of Holyoke; siblings Manuel and Olga of Firemont, Minnesota, Javier of Holyoke, and Astolfo and Lilia of Holyoke; son Christopher of Texas; stepson Jason and Chasta of Aurora, Nebraska; grandchildren Hudson of Aurora and Annabelle, Aaron, Hayden and Emily of Grand Junction; and many nephews and nieces.

Joel was preceded in death by his grandmother Patricia; parents Manuel and Augustina; sister Cuca; stepbrother Enrique; and stepsister Nora.
