John Dietrich Sagehorn, 33, a lifelong resident of Holyoke, died Sept. 6, 2021.

John was born in Sterling to Keith and Diane (Stang) Sagehorn on Oct. 12, 1987. He graduated from Holyoke High School in 2006.

John worked for the Phillips County Road and Bridge Department for 11 years. He was also part of many harvest crews for local farmers. For more than 10 years, John served with Amherst Volunteer Fire Department. He was baptized, confirmed and a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Holyoke.

John loved the outdoors and all it offered. He enjoyed baseball, golf, shooting sports, hunting, fishing and camping with his friends. John was very strong in his faith, helping bring many of his friends closer to God throughout the years. John’s friends and family were very important to him, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. John found his true talent in working with and on heavy equipment, often saying, “I’m just a big kid in a big sand box with big toys.”

John is survived by his wife, Amanda (Hermann) Austin; stepdaughter, Aspyn Austin; parents, Keith and Diane Sagehorn of Holyoke; grandparents, Ulene (Swedberg) Sagehorn of Holyoke and Donald Stang of Holyoke; sister, Elisa and Seth Kohler of Lancaster, Ohio; nephew and nieces, Nehemiah, Abigail, Hadassah and Candace Kohler of Lancaster; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

John was preceded in death by his son, Gabriel Matthew Sagehorn; and grandparents, Harold Sagehorn and Eleanor (Coulter) Stang.

The funeral service was held Sept. 15 at Zion Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amherst Volunteer Fire Department.

Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
