Judy Sue Weissenfluh Brown, 75, died April 12, 2021, in Greeley. Judy was born Jan. 19, 1946, in Colorado Springs to Stanley “Dutch” and Viola “Jackie” (Nitzel) Weissenfluh. Judy grew up on a ranch in Yoder, where she learned an appreciation for hard work and developed a love for animals that was lifelong.

Judy graduated from Yoder High School in 1964, where she enjoyed playing basketball and softball. She then attended college at Southern Colorado State College in Pueblo, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education.

After graduating, Judy worked for Mr. Steak, where she was able to travel the country while helping to open new restaurants. She enjoyed sharing stories about her adventures while traveling. Judy then accepted her first teaching job in Maywood, Nebraska, where she met her husband, Wayne William “Bill” Brown Jr. They married on Aug. 15, 1970, in North Platte, Nebraska.

In August of 1971, the couple moved to Oshkosh, Nebraska, where they continued their teaching careers and also started their family. It was here that Brenda and Brandon were born. In July of 1981, the family moved to Stratton, where they had their third child, Sarah.

Judy took a break from her teaching career, using this time to focus on her true passion, raising her children. In 1986 the family moved to Yuma; this is where Judy resumed teaching and earned her master’s degree in special education from Adams State College.

In 1996 the family moved to Holyoke. Judy became the special education teacher in Haxtun, where she had a great influence on the special education program and her students. She retired from her teaching career in 2005. In 2007 Judy moved to Sterling to enjoy her retirement spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Judy was a kind and compassionate soul. She was selfless in her devotion to her family, friends and all those she came in contact with. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s activities and never missed a game. Judy had a green thumb, she enjoyed being outdoors and spent countless hours working on her lawn and garden.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 33 years, Wayne William “Bill” Brown; her parents, Stanley “Dutch” and Viola “Jackie” Weissenfluh; her brother, Ronald Ellison; and her brother-in-law, Eric Ottem.

Judy is survived by her daughter Brenda, son-in-law Travis, and grandchildren Jace and Camdyn Pittman; son Brandon, daughter-in-law Jessica, and grandsons Braedan and Jax Brown; daughter Sarah Brown; sisters Jerilyn Ottem and Robin Martin; sister-in-law Diane Ellison; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 22, 5-7 p.m. at Baucke Funeral Chapel in Holyoke.

Services will be held Friday, April 23, at 10 a.m. at Baucke Funeral Chapel in Holyoke. Burial will follow at approximately 2 p.m. MDT at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens in North Platte, Nebraska. The service will be livestreamed on Baucke Funeral Home and Monuments’ Facebook page.

Memorial contributions can be made to an Alzheimer’s charity of your choice.
