Krista Shawn Withington was born Jan. 2, 1975, to Irvin E. Withington and Rebecca J. Withington. She died May 21, 2023, at the age of 48 at the hospital in Highlands Ranch after a seven-year battle with cancer, leaving this life here on earth to do her work in heaven with our Lord.

Krista grew up south of Wray with her brother Aaron. They would travel to Joes to her grandparents on the farm, riding in the tractor with Grandpa Francis or helping Grandma feeding the chickens.

Later, Krista’s family moved to Red Feather Lakes, where Krista started school, making friends wherever she was.

She moved to Big Springs, Nebraska, for a while and then back to Wray, living with Grandma Ruby, where she learned to bake many goodies. She later moved back to Big Springs, where she had many friends and where she graduated in 1993. Krista was in band and on the cheer squad and in various sports.

After graduation, she met and married Troy Denman, and to this union, Cameron and Forrest were born. Krista worked various jobs, including the Flying J in Julesburg.

While living in Sterling and pursuing her schooling to become a legal secretary and getting a major in business, she met Jeremy Ober, and to this union, Reiland was born. She decided the legal field was not for her, so she pursued a nursing career after the Flying J closed. She graduated as an RN, and her adventure began — nurse, EMT and home health care.

While living in Julesburg, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She met Jody Maupin, adding four more children and three grandchildren in her life. Krista was a devoted mom and was always the one known as the “Town Mom”; she made sure all the kids in town were picked up and got home safely.

Krista left behind her parents Irvin and Bonny of Ogallala, Nebraska, and Becky and Willie Franken of Chappell, Nebraska; brother, Aaron Withington and son Charlie; husband, Jody Maupin and children Autumn Marie and David Schick and children McKelti, Greysen and Remington of Gering, Nebraska, Trevor Maupin of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Logan Maupin of Dillon, Montana, and Sarah Maupin of Basin, Wyoming; her three precious sons, Cameron Denman, Forrest Denman and his wife Kimi and grandchildren Lalainya and Timothy, and Reiland Ober, all of Holyoke; Dawn Ramos and family of Texas; Dana Miller and family of Valentine, Nebraska; Laura Schoenthal and family of Wray; BJ Franken and Melissa of Brule, Nebraska; and Brayden and Amber Peterson of Denver and Knox; and other relatives and friends. She loved them all dearly.

Krista joins those before her: Chester and Grace Withington; Francis and Ruby DeVries; Marie DeVries; stepfather Stan Murphy and his parents Chuck and Gwen Murphy; and numerous loved ones.

Krista fought a long and hard battle against cancer and just couldn’t fight anymore.

The funeral service was held June 2 at Baucke Funeral Chapel in Holyoke, with Pastor Paul Brunner officiating. Interment followed at the Holyoke Cemetery.

Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
