Larry Stein

Larry Gene Stein was born Jan. 7, 1937, to Ervin and Jo (Rice) Stein in Topeka, Kansas. He died Jan. 19, 2021, at the age of 84, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke.

After graduating from high school, Larry attended Western Colorado University in Gunnison.

Larry married JoAnn (Weiss) Stein on March 9, 1958, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke. This union was blessed with three children: Brian, Cheryl and Eric. Larry and JoAnn spent 62 years together before his death.

Larry worked at John Deere in Holyoke and Imperial, Nebraska, in the sales department; John Baldwin Chevrolet and Stone Motors in the sales department; and was a USPS rural mail carrier.

Larry served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years. He served on a submarine and a destroyer. He was active in the Holyoke VFW and Lions Club. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and belonged to the church choir.

Larry was an avid arrowhead hunter and enjoyed taking the family every chance he had. He enjoyed woodworking, caring for his beautiful yard, studying geology, and spending as much time as possible with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Larry spearheaded the development, creation and maintenance of the Holyoke Lions Club Fishin’ Hole. He spent countless hours volunteering at the local ballpark stand, delivering Meals on Wheels, volunteering and participating in Lions Club activities, and collecting and distributing medical equipment for the Lions Club, and was active in the Catholic Church in various capacities. Larry will be remembered for always having a smile.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Jo Stein, and daughter-in-law, Pam Stein.

Larry is survived by his wife, JoAnn Stein of Holyoke; siblings, Jim Stein and wife Karen of South Dakota, Richard Stein and wife Marsha of Nebraska, and Mary Poe and husband Noel of Utah; children, Brian Stein of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Cheryl Hunt of Fort Collins, and Eric Stein and wife Christie of Fort Collins; Scott Hunt of Fort Collins; grandchildren, Joshua Stein and wife Jessica of River Falls, Wisconsin, Jamie Gulley and husband Jason of Fort Collins, Trenton Hunt of Fort Collins, Lucas Stein of Fort Collins, Skyler Hunt of Fort Collins and Isaac Stein of Fort Collins; and great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Liam and Asher Stein of River Falls, Wisconsin, Braelund Gulley of Fort Collins, and Amber and Kaylee Gulley of North Dakota.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Holyoke Cemetery, with Father Jerry Rohr officiating. The service will be livestreamed on Baucke Funeral Home and Monuments’ Facebook page.
