Lois Schlachter
Lois May Schlachter, 93, died and was taken to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 20, 2023. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at her assisted living home in Holyoke. Lois was born May 9, 1930, in Holyoke to Emil and Rena (de la Motte) Heermann. She was raised on the family farm with her two sisters, LaRue and Louise.
Lois completed grades 1-8 at Evergreen one-room school, located near her home east of Holyoke. She then attended Holyoke High School and graduated in 1948.
She met the love of her life, Delmer Schlachter, in Walther League, and they were married on July 25, 1948. She was the beloved wife of Delmer Schlachter for 37 years and the treasured mother of four children. As her family grew, her love and attention extended to her eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Lois and Delmer worked as a team to raise a family of four boys on a dairy and wheat farm east of Holyoke. Lois’ children were her pride and joy, and she treasured the blessing of dedicating her time and energy to their upbringing, along with building a thriving farm with Delmer.
Lois enjoyed traveling with Delmer throughout the country as he traveled as a representative on a dairy association board. After Delmer’s death in 1985, Lois continued to travel and visit family throughout the country and in Germany.
Lois loved and faithfully served her Lord and Savior. This was evident throughout her life as she shared a common faith with her family and served others through her church. Lois enjoyed spending time with family through time spent on the farm, attending school and church activities and traveling together.
Throughout her life, Lois nurtured her artistic talents that included oil painting, cake decorating, sewing and quilting. She blessed others, including her children and grandchildren, over many years with her artistic and beautiful projects.
Lois spent all of her 93 years as a daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandparent in Holyoke. She was deeply rooted in her rural northeast Colorado community, her family, and the farm where she lived a fulfilled, accomplished and joyful life. Lois was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, with a heart filled with love for her family and pure kindness.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delmer, her older sister LaRue and her husband Kenneth Schlachter, brother-in-law Bryce Worley, her oldest son Dennis Schlachter, and an infant granddaughter.
Lois is survived by her younger sister Louise Worley; three of her four children and their spouses: Peg Schlachter (Dennis’ wife), Marc and Gail Schlachter, Dave and Carol Schlachter, and Jim and Jan Schlachter; eight grandchildren, Hazen Schlachter, Rena Carson-Schlachter, Nate Schlachter, Janae Reimer, Aaron Schlachter, Phillip Schlachter, Bethany Campbell-Schlachter and Ben Schlachter; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
We know there was a joyous welcome for Lois in heaven. She will remain in all our hearts, lives and stories. We are thankful for her being a family cornerstone and her example of living by faith.

Funeral services were held May 27 at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke. Burial was held May 30 at Holyoke Cemetery.
