Lynette Ann Johnson — or Nanny, as she was known to family and friends — had great joy to life. Born April 7, 1954, she was a lifelong teacher, starting with her two younger sisters. She died Feb. 25, 2020.

Lynette enjoyed spending time with friends, learning new things and playing sports throughout her school years. After graduating from Chase County High School in Imperial, Nebraska, in 1972, Lynette attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, earning a degree in elementary education with an endorsement in special education.

While home from college she met Rod Johnson, and they were married on Memorial Day weekend, May 29, 1976. Rod and Lynette made their home on the farm south of Imperial, where they raised their three boys.

She loved camping, entertaining and spending time with family. Lynette was an avid gardener with a beautiful yard and was an excellent cook. Lynette loved animals, especially raising sheep. She was a devoted Denver Broncos fan and enjoyed following her boys in sports.

Lynette taught education in the Imperial area for 30 years. She was heavily involved in 4-H and FFA as a volunteer, educator and mentor. In March 2006, Lynette was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s and faced a long battle ahead. Lynette’s strong faith in God kept her moving forward until her death. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Lynette was preceded in death by her father, Dale Likens; and mother, Lois Ann Langhofer.

Lynette is survived by her stepfather, Ralph Langhofer; stepmother, Justine Likens; husband, Rod Johnson; three children, Clint Johnson, Ryan and Tonya Johnson, and Curtis and Mary Johnson; eight grandchildren, Shandra Johnson, Stevie Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Jasmine Johnson, Keylee Johnson, Keller Johnson, Liam Johnson and Ella Johnson; sisters, Valrie and Dave Brush and Yolanda and Mark Ambrosek; stepbrother, John and Maria Uptegrove; stepsisters, Donna and Matt Fisher, Debra and Doug Kaup, Heather Classen, and Wendy and Nate Nordhausen; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Feb. 29 at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial. Pastor David Kahle officiated. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested in Lynette’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Great Plains Chapter, 1500 S. 70th St., Suite 201, Lincoln, NE 68506, www.alz.org/greatplains.
