Maria Rojo-Ramirez
Maria Elena Rojo-Ramirez was born April 26, 1963, to Carmen Chacon and Enrique Ramirez of Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico. She died March 20, 2021.
While attending Cuauhtemoc Public High School, she met the love of her life, Alonzo Javier Rojo, in 1979, and after finishing high school she worked for the John Deere dealership in Cuauhtemoc for the next five years.
Alonzo got established in Holyoke in 1989 and decided this was where he wanted to start planting his roots with his soon-to-be wife. He went back to Mexico and married Maria in 1992, and a couple of weeks later they moved to the United States permanently to start their lives together.
When Maria moved to the States, she started taking night classes at the Heginbotham Library with the help of Kathy Haynes and Dorothy Ortner, where she would work hard to learn English. In 1995, Maria and Alonzo had their firstborn, Javier Rojo-Ramirez, and they had their marriage blessed in October of 1996 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke, where Maria would also attend, sing, volunteer and dedicate her life to Christ.
In 1997, Maria and Alonzo had their second child, Fernando Rojo-Ramirez, along with getting her American citizenship approved that same year. They were blessed with their third and final son, Angel Rojo-Ramirez, in 2001.
Maria is survived by her husband, Alonzo Rojo of Holyoke; her three sons, Javier Rojo-Ramirez of Ogallala, Nebraska, Fernando Rojo-Ramirez of Severance and Angel Rojo-Ramirez of Severance; brothers, Arturo Ramirez and family of Fort Worth, Texas, Roberto Ramirez of Holyoke and Manuel Ramirez of Cuauhtemoc; sisters, Carmen Luz and her daughter Karla of Cuauhtemoc, Guatalupe Ayala and husband Juan of Holyoke, and Olga Ramirez-Ruiz and husband Jessie Ruiz Jr. of Holyoke.
The funeral Mass was scheduled for Wednesday, March 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke. The service was set to be livestreamed on Baucke Funeral Home and Monuments’ Facebook page.
