Naomi Jenkins-Heermann

Naomi Nadine Jenkins-Heermann was born to Jay and Lorna (Groshans) Martin on July 31, 1938, at her family home in Holyoke and died May 9, 2020, at Melissa Memorial Hospital.

Naomi graduated from Holyoke High School in 1955. Upon graduating, she attended beauty school in Colorado Springs. On Aug. 5, 1956, she married Harold Jenkins Jr. To this union two children were born, Deanna (Jenkins) Wegman and Tonia (Jenkins) Carlson.

Naomi and Harold enjoyed 34 years of marriage until Harold’s death in 1990. In September 2012 Naomi married Kenneth Heermann, and they resided in Holyoke until his death in 2014.

Naomi was known for being a very hard worker all of her life, beginning as a young teenager. She proudly spoke of being one of the first carhops at Dairy King in Holyoke. She also worked as a telephone operator and an Avon lady and retired from Julesburg Elementary School after serving as secretary for 27 years.

She was also known to fill the role as Harold’s right-hand man during harvest and with the farm animals. Throughout the years Naomi enjoyed golfing, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, Jay Martin and Lorna Meinte, and stepparents; her first husband, Harold Jenkins Jr.; her second husband, Kenneth Heermann; son-in-law, John; brothers-in-law, Gary, Ed, Lloyd and Pat; and sister-in-law, Clara.

She is survived by her daughters, Deanna Wegman and Tonia and Doug Carlson; her grandchildren, Derek, Chris and Kristen, Becky and Kevin, and Travis; great-grandchildren, Noah, Ruth, William and Levi; siblings, Jim and Shirley Martin, Mary Fulscher, Carmen Holloway, Mike Meinte, and Tammy and Jim Berbee; stepson and family, Eldon, Christine, Justin and Sarah Heermann; brothers-in-law, Reed and Cathy Jenkins and Dean and Sondra Jenkins; sisters-in-law, JoeAnna Jenkins and Earla Connors; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held May 13 at Ovid Cemetery.
