Nita Goldenstein

Juanita Mae “Nita” Goldenstein, 94, died June 12, 2021, in Holyoke. Her final days were spent with her family. She was born Sept. 25, 1926, in Banning, California, the daughter of Gladwin and Hazel Hansen.

At the age of 8, after the death of her mother, Juanita moved to Deadwood, South Dakota, to live with her aunt and uncle, Lewis and Elizabeth Sharpe. She graduated from high school in 1946, then moved to Greeley and attended Colorado Teachers College (now UNC). She studied teaching, and she substitute taught in Holyoke and also taught some evening adult bookkeeping classes.

Juanita and Robert Goldenstein were united in marriage Aug. 15, 1948. They had two sons, Ron and Alan. Bob and Nita celebrated 63 years of marriage in 2011 shortly before Robert passed away.

Together they enjoyed travel, playing cards with friends, golfing, and following kids and grandkids in sports. Later in life, they wintered in Mesa, Arizona, and enjoyed the same pastimes with the same friends. Ron enjoyed time with them in Arizona when he was able to.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband Robert; her parents; brothers, Ralph Lowenthal and Melvin Hansen; and her aunt and uncle, Lewis and Elizabeth Sharpe.

Survivors include her sons, Ron Goldenstein of Holyoke and Alan Goldenstein and wife Dana of Holyoke; grandchildren, Clint and wife Susan of Erie, Melissa and husband Kyle of Holyoke, and Luke and wife Jade of Holyoke; great-grandchildren, Jaydin and wife Emily, Sydney, Kelyn and Bryton Goldenstein, Emersyn Goldenstein, Cooper, Adison, Kyle and Cole Goldenstein, and Jared, Jenna, Lillian and Meghan Yates; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A family graveside service was held June 21 at the Holyoke Cemetery.

Those who want to remember Nita in a special way may make gifts in her memory to The Juanita Goldenstein Memorial Fund at First Pioneer National Bank in Holyoke.
