Ramona Smith

    Ramona Jane Smith was born Feb. 24, 1931, in Haxtun. She was the fifth child of McCoy and Marie Wisdom. She died Jan. 22, 2017, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke. She was 85 years of age at the time of her death.
    Ramona was raised in and around Haxtun. She was married to Wendell Allen Smith April 25, 1948. To this union, four children were born: Helen Marie, Linda Kay, Robert Lee and David Allen.
    Ramona was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 66 years, Jolly Dozen Club and First Christian Church of Holyoke.
    The family lived on the Guy Poe farm southeast of Holyoke from 1948 to 1972, at which time they moved to their home in Holyoke where she lived until 2015. Her last two years were spent in the Regent Park nursing home.
    Ramona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wendell; daughter, Linda Kay Kubo; three brothers, James Wisdom and wife Vera, Ernest Wisdom and wife Nancy, and Max Wisdom; two sisters, Katherine Mares and husband James and Helen Roberts and husband Sterling; nephew, Timothy Johnson; niece, Cindy Ketels; nephew, James Mares Jr. and wife Renee and children Jamie, Ricky and Allyson; sister-in-law, Lois Lakey and husband Bobbie; brother-in-law, Stanton Smith and wife Dorothy; brother-in-law, Sid Smith; and brother-in-law, Gerald Myer.
    Ramona is survived by her daughter, Helen Marie Miller of Amherst; two sons, Robert Lee Smith and David Allen Smith and wife Rhonda, all of Holyoke; sister, Mildred Johnson and husband Don of Westminster; sisters-in-law, Pat Wisdom of Colorado Springs, Pat Warren and husband Leonard of Holyoke, Nancy Bradford and husband Walt of Wray, Bonnie Smith of Holyoke and Betty Myer of Haigler, Nebraska; brothers-in-law, Robert Smith and wife Sharon of Sterling and Gerald Smith and wife Betty of Holyoke; 12 grandchildren, Randall Lee Smith of Denver, Kent Starks of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Angela Taylor of Rapid City, South Dakota, Traci Buechler and husband Brendon of Gillette, Wyoming, Jenifer Hannah of Gillette, Amanda Kubo of Gillette, Jyl Cannon and husband Jack of Elberta, Alabama, Lee Smith and wife Nikki of Canadian, Texas, Jon Smith of Holyoke, Landon Smith of Gillette, Tanner Smith of Holyoke and Marissa Smith of Dallas, Texas; two step-grandsons, Ryan Kubo and wife Yvonne of Kansas City, Missouri, and Shawn Kubo and wife Alicia of Hawaii; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins and a host of friends.
    Funeral services were held Jan. 27 at First Christian Church in Holyoke with Pastor Merle Powell officiating. Interment followed at the Holyoke Cemetery.
    Arrangements were under the direction of Baucke Funeral Home of Holyoke.
