Sherri Lyn Drescher died Sept. 15, 2021, in Holyoke, just six days after celebrating her 62nd birthday. Sherri was born to James and Susanne Drescher in Alamosa on Sept. 9, 1959.

Sherri attended Holyoke Elementary and Junior High School and graduated from Sterling High School in 1980. She competed in relay races and running events with the Special Olympics throughout junior high and high school, winning the gold medal in the 220 yard dash in 1978, along with several other medals throughout her Special Olympics career.

Sherri completed a work experience study program in high school and worked at McDonalds, the Sterling hospital and a motel. After graduation, she worked at Dairy King in Holyoke for many years before beginning her volunteer job at Meet and Eat, where she logged over 15,000 volunteer hours over the past 25 years. Sherri was a dedicated and loyal volunteer at Meet and Eat, always showing up with a smile, ready to serve.

Sherri was baptized at the Holyoke Methodist Church on April 9, 1974. For the past 25 years, Sherri was a faithful and dedicated member at First Christian Church of Holyoke, regularly serving as a greeter and kitchen helper. She loved attending church and singing songs of praise to her Jesus.

More than her school and work accomplishments, she had a deep love for her family and community. Sherri brought joy to every person she met and has been a cornerstone of her family; she especially loved her great-nieces.

Sherri also had a deep love for dogs, her church and Holyoke Dragons sports. She could often be found rooting on the Rockies (or just about any sports team), telling jokes to the preacher or stuffing pillows for cancer patients. She enjoyed cheering for her nephews, nieces and cousins in all of their endeavors and loved nothing more than a good dance party.

Sherri celebrated others well and loved people deeply. She was constantly giving a helping hand wherever needed and was the best companion for an outing. She was a best friend to many!

Sherri was preceded in death by her father, James Drescher, whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her mother and constant companion, Susanne of Holyoke; brother, Jay and wife Susan of Southlake, Texas; nephew, Justin and wife Sara of Denver; niece, Erin Franzen and husband Adam and their daughters Josephine and Everette of Fort Collins; nephew, JJ and wife Alex and their daughters Harper and Merritt of Little Rock, Arkansas; and niece, Madison of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and beyond. Sherri considered many friends as family. She will be dearly missed by all, but we can say with confidence that she lived an incredibly full life and is now in her heavenly home, dancing with her daddy.

A funeral service for Sherri will be held Thursday, Sept. 23, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church of Holyoke, with a graveside service to follow at Holyoke Cemetery.

Memorials in Sherri’s memory can be made to First Christian Church of Holyoke.

Baucke Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
