   Twila LaVina (Arnold) Schmidt, age 102, of Holyoke, died Aug. 4, 2017, surrounded by her family at the home of her granddaughter Dixie and husband Roger in Sidney, Nebraska. Twila was born Oct. 28, 1914, in Lamar, Nebraska, to Frank and Ella (Harding) Arnold, where she lived until 1927 when her family moved to Holyoke.
    Throughout Twila’s childhood, she continued to reside in Holyoke, where she graduated as valedictorian from Holyoke High School in the class of 1933.
    Twila was a devoted Christian and had always had a personal relationship with her Lord and savior. Twila was confirmed Dec. 12, 1934, and baptized Dec. 25, 1959.
    In May 1933, Twila was united in marriage to Wilty Herman Poos and moved to the Amherst community. They later divorced in 1949. Into this union, two sons were born: Verlin “Bud” in 1934 and Johnny in 1937.
    On Oct. 24, 1952, Twila married Lawrence Schmidt, and they made their home at the Schmidt oil station outside of Holyoke until 1965 when they purchased their home in Holyoke, where they both lived until Lawrence passed away in 1996. Twila continued to reside in her home until she was unable to care for herself.
    One of Twila’s greatest enjoyments was her family. She would often comment how precious they were and that she loved them all dearly.
    Twila was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ella Arnold; two brothers, Obert and Leonard Arnold; and her two sons, Verlin “Bud” and Johnny Poos.
    She is survived by her four grandchildren, Dixie Brown and husband Roger of Sidney, Marty Poos and wife Jennie of Merino, Pennie Ramey and husband Dave of Atwood, and Caroline Whiting and husband Brian of Aurora; 13 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Mary Poos of Aurora and Sharon Poos of Merino; ex-daughter-in-law, Mary Jane McCasland Allen of Sterling; step-grandson, Burke and wife Jill of Annabelle, Utah; stepson, Robert Schmidt and wife Charlotte of Arizona; and three step-granddaughters, Karen Vander Ark and family, Christy Waken­dorf and family, and Robin Bardwell and family.
    Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 10, at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke, with Pastor Gary A. Rahe officiating. Burial was set to follow at the Holyoke Cemetery.
    Friends could stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel in Sidney Wednesday, Aug. 9, from 3-7 p.m. or Zion Lutheran Church Thursday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
