Wesley Gayle Pickering died and went home to be with her Lord on Feb. 16, 2021, at her home in Longmont at the age of 46. She was born July 24, 1974, in Holyoke to Richard and Carolyn (Sullivan) Gonzales.

When Wesley was a little girl, she and her mom moved to Hereford for a brief time before moving to Longmont, where Wesley grew up. She graduated from Niwot High School in 1993, and many of her friends from school continued to be lifelong friends.

Wesley attended Front Range Community College to complete her R.N. degree. Excelling at her career, she quickly advanced from being a floor nurse to director of nursing and finally to working for the Colorado state health department. Her work life through the years centered around nursing homes and the elderly, who held a special place in her heart.

On March 24, 2001, Wesley married Andrew Pickering. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of their daughter Alyssa Mae in 2001 and son Kody Clayton in 2004.

Wesley was a devoted mother and loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a die-hard Denver Broncos fan, and she loved the beach and all things pink. She was an animal lover, always wanting to adopt a new pet, much to the dismay of some of her family members, and had recently added chickens and fainting goats to the mix.

While battling cancer for many years, she never wavered in her faith in God’s goodness and love for her. Her strength, courage and positive outlook on life were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Wesley was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn Sullivan, and father, Richard Gonzales.

She is survived by her daughter, Alyssa Pickering; son, Kody Pickering; Andrew Pickering; Judy and Al Snyder; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, at noon at Shupe Homestead, 11931 N. 61st St. in Longmont. Refer to www.howemortuary.com for a link to the livestream of the service.

Cremation was chosen, and her ashes will be laid to rest with her parents at Foothills Cemetery in Longmont.
