Holyoke resident suggests a helping hand for shut-in veterans

Having family and friends who are veterans, I really enjoyed and agree with the Nov. 16 article on remembering and honoring our heroes. It really hits close to home now, having a young son in the navy.

This year, I would have loved to take my veteran friend out for some of these programs and breakfasts our community puts on, but he has a hard time getting around and those times may be too early for him.

Would it be possible to take out something to those veterans who are shut in, due to health? Maybe if something was done later in the afternoon, there would be a bigger turnout and it may even make it easier on the high school kids, so they don’t have to get ready quite so early.

I was able to take him a doughnut and cookies from Holyoke Marketplace, to which he said to make sure and thank them. Once again, thank you to all our veterans for serving our country.
