Navigating the news requires adjustment in paper’s redesign

Just checking in with our readers to see if you’ve learned to navigate your way through the weekly Enterprise since our redesign launched in mid-November.
Team Enterprise has appreciated the encouragement and positive comments with regard to our new look. But we also take to heart the criticism and comments of concern. We thank our loyal readers for your encouragement and honesty. Every thought shared gives us a chance to evaluate and consider.
Some have said they can’t find a standard newspiece in the Enterprise, like the school lunch menu, the calendar of events, the building permits or the peekin’ in the past news from years gone by.
I liken this frustration to what I experienced when our new grocery story came to town 10 years ago. It was so exciting to have a new, fully-stocked, friendly-service, state-of-the-art store — but I couldn’t find a thing. The shelves were stocked differently than what I was used to, items were categorized in what seemed to be a strange way, and new items that had never been offered cluttered the standard staples.
It didn’t take me long to find my way around, to appreciate the new tasty goodies that I’d never considered trying before and to recognize that the new categorizing certainly made sense. And a decade later, I still love our hometown grocery store that offers so much and caters to our needs.
In the Enterprise, there’s a new standard header for items such as the community calendar, college student news, club reports and more. Hopefully the last three months of the new design has helped readers acclimate to finding what they’re looking for in the Enterprise.
