Scholarship funds are an investment in the future

Granting money to benefit residents of the Eastern Plains is one of my favorite things to do. It’s even more meaningful when we’re awarding scholarships, which allow the next generation to achieve something — in this case, a college education — they may not be able to attain on their own.

The Eastern Colorado Community Fund is honored to work with donors who make these opportunities possible. We have been entrusted with funds from donors who want to make an impact on students’ lives. There are also awards for those who may not fit the mold of the traditional college-bound student.

For the 2019-2020 school year, ECCF was proud to partner with the Logan County Nurses Scholarship to award five $1,000 grants. Recipients were Vitaly Zagidulin, Elisabeth Foster-Taisarsky, Shelby Kuntz, Carlie Rosa and Carly Orth.

I’d like to share what Vitaly wrote to us: “Thank you very much for selecting me for this award. I’m extremely pleased, and it will help me tremendously to pay for classes as well as my kids’ childcare. With your help, I will continue to strive for high grades and excellent knowledge to provide superior service now and upon my graduation in 2020.” (If interested in earning a LCNS Scholarship this year, please log onto nocofoundation.org/scholarships and apply by Feb. 28.)

Scholarships are a wonderful way to support promising and deserving students by assisting them with the costs of their education. Donors often see such scholarships as a meaningful way to honor or memorialize friends, teachers or family members.
