A solid life

There are many things in this world at which I am pretty much useless. Outside of knowing a few minor things, I am lost under the hood of a car. You can put me on a boat and hand me a fishing pole or take me out in the woods and hand me a shotgun, but don’t expect me to come back with dinner. Clip a fully loaded tool belt around my waist and lead me to the woodpile with the charge to build a shed, and you will be sorely disappointed at day’s end.
But even though I am not even close to proficient at any of these endeavors, if I were given detailed step-by-step instructions and if you put an expert at my side to guide my every move, I could get the job done.
Solomon’s counsel for us today, provides the step-by-step instructions to build a life. He writes, “By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”
The terminology that Solomon employs is a euphemism for life. He is not teaching how to physically build a house but is instead showing us how to build, and have a solid and fruitful life.
The foundation is wisdom; and in the context of Solomon’s writings, the wisdom in mind here is godly wisdom; the wisdom of being able to apply the principles of Scripture to all the situations and circumstances of your life.
