‘Witness’ drama keeps audience guessing

A motive. An overheard conversation. A bloodstained sleeve — or was it both sleeves? Clashing testimonies and personalities kept audience members guessing clear through the HHS drama department’s production of “Witness for the Prosecution,” presented at the high school auditorium Friday and Saturday, March 24-25.
    Although a courtroom drama may have sounded like a lot to ask of a group of high school students, the cast was more than up to the challenge. In perfect character right down to the accents, it was easy to be drawn into the suspense.
    Tyler Lamm played a natural Leonard Vole, supposedly wrongly accused of murder and certainly too sweet and naive to really be guilty.
    His calculating wife Romaine, played by Kayla Marshall, was suspicious and conniving from the start. Through the entire play, audience members were left to imagine what possible motive she might have to lie under oath about poor Vole — because surely, she must have been lying, right?
    Opposing rival attorneys Sir Wilfred Robarts, played by Luke Krogmeier, and Ms. Myers, played by Jaxie Gerk, had to make sense along with the audience of the conflicting evidence in the case.
