2 drivers to share duties of transportation supervision

A current activity trip driver and a regular bus route driver for Holyoke School District have agreed to share the transportation supervisor role in the district for the coming school year.

In announcing this plan at the June 22 school board meeting, Superintendent Kyle Stumpf said the district advertised for this position for quite some time, and Stumpf himself took on the supervisory role this past year.

He reported that they thought they had a strong candidate for the position, but when it came right down to it, it didn’t work for him and his family to move here.

Drivers Summer Struckmeyer and Mark Groshans then expressed to Stumpf that they would like to share the supervisory role. They have met with Stumpf several times regarding the split in responsibilities and duties.

Stumpf said he feels this is the best way to move forward, with some trust and reliability in knowing the routes and drivers.

They will reanalyze the situation the middle of the year to see if the plan is working as they anticipated.

Stumpf said there is one route that is currently running a yellow bus but could serve less than 10 kids in the coming year. Consideration could be made for making it a mini-bus route. Stumpf will work with the new supervisors on the detail process for determining transportation options.

As part of the Building Excellent Schools Today project reports, the district requested information on money spent locally as a result of the BEST project.

Through May, Stumpf reported that close to $12,000 was spent locally.

In other BEST project discussion, the board looked at a sample carpet layout for the new entryway and the site of the previous elevator in the commons area of the JR/SR high.
