4th grade teacher, AD hired

A fourth grade teacher as well as the athletic/activities director were hired for Holyoke School District for 2021-22 at a special board meeting held Monday, July 5.

Kaylee (Michael) Duvall will be teaching fourth grade, and Corey Koberstein will serve as A.D. and will also handle small-vehicle coordination and industry certification coordination.

Duvall earned her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education with a minor in early childhood education through the University of Wyoming.

A Haxtun High School graduate, Duvall is currently working on a graduate certificate in English Language Learners education.

Koberstein earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration with a minor in computer science from Doane University in Crete, Nebraska.

For the last 14 years, he has worked in the oil and gas industry where he also helped people in that field acquire industry certifications.

Koberstein is a Holyoke High School grad and has been a coach in the district for the last six years.

Carpet bid approved

In other action at the brief special meeting, the board accepted a bid, not to exceed $55,000, from All Commercial Floors Inc. to replace carpet in the high school.

The carpet will cover from the front entrance through the commons area and westward down the hall to the junior high.

A decision was needed this week in order for the carpet to be ordered and installed by the start of the school year.

Buses included in budget

Superintendent Kyle Stumpf reminded the board that the 2021-22 budget includes buses. He said that the transportation directors are looking at ordering a 53-passenger bus and a new minibus to be used for small group transportation including sporting events.

He added that he will keep the board in the loop as to the bus replacement plan but just wanted to note that it is in this year’s budget.

Stumpf added that there is consideration, in another year, for purchasing a Greyhound activities bus for longer road trips. He said they would hope to do that before the mill levy funds are gone in five years.

Policies discussed

Early in Monday’s meeting, the board reviewed a revised Colorado Association of School Boards policy on staff use of the internet and electronic communications, as well as an exhibit on a staff acceptable technology use agreement.

Approval was given for first reading of these two CASB policies, as well as others covering facilities planning, mentor teachers/administrators and professional staff induction program.

Board retreat set for July 14

The only other school board meeting this month will be a brief one Wednesday, July 14, at 5 p.m., preceding the board retreat at the Phillips County Event Center.

The agenda includes discussion of CASB policies and the fourth-quarter financial report, as well as approval of new personnel, intergovernmental agreements and policies on first reading.

Board members will tour the apartments at Melissa Memorial Hospital at 4 p.m. on July 14.

Also under board development is discussion on the revision of the district’s mission, vision, values and goals.
