6 qualify for national FCCLA

Twenty Holyoke FCCLA members competed at the state leadership conference from April 14-16 at the Sheraton Downtown Denver Hotel.

“It was a little wild having so many first-timers,” said adviser Karen Ortner, referring to how there had not been an in-person state conference since the seniors were freshmen. “Once we all got settled, everyone did great. I was super proud of our group.”

Six members across three groups qualified for the national leadership conference in San Diego, California, this summer, and an additional group of three was named an alternate.

National qualifiers include:

— Aleida Millan and Elly Brown, Sustainability Challenge, first place.

— Sawyer Sigler, Ciara Peterson and Madi Clapper,  National Programs in Action, first place.

— Elyce Sisseck, Repurpose & Redesign, second place, silver.
