7 from Holyoke honored at migrant awards ceremony

    Six Holyoke students and one outstanding educator were recognized at the Eighth Annual Outstanding Migrant Student and High School Graduation Ceremony on May 11, hosted by Northeast and Centennial BOCES.
    The ceremony, held at Yuma Middle School, recognized high-achieving participants in local migrant education programs, including students from migrant families and their teachers.
    The awardees were all nominated by Holyoke School District staff. From Holyoke Elementary, Regina de Jesus Diaz was recognized as an outstanding student and Yaneli Portillo was named most improved. English as a second language instructor Cynthia Bahler was recognized as an outstanding educator. Angel Escamilla and Delvin Marquez of Holyoke JR/SR High School were recognized as outstanding arts student and most improved student, respectively. Diana Gonzalez and Erick Garcia were recognized as 2019 Holyoke High School graduates.
