8 projects qualify for nationals in virtual FCCLA competition

Eight Holyoke FCCLA projects qualified for the national conference after a virtual state competition this spring. The results were announced online Saturday, April 10.

In mid-March, 19 students submitted paperwork, pictures and prerecorded presentations for a total of nine projects in six different event categories.

National qualifiers include:

— National Programs in Action, Level 3, LorenJo Oberle, “Life After Graduation,” first place gold medal.

— National Programs in Action, Level 2, Elyce Sisseck, Grace Roberts and Aleida Millan, “Step for the Rhythm,” first place silver medal.

— Chapter in Review Portfolio, Level 3, Kyleigh Jaeger and Anna Chaney, “Red Carpet,” first place silver medal.

— Repurpose and Redesign, Level 2, Alma Alejandre and Jimena Nuñez, “Wall O’ Pockets,” first place silver medal.

— Professional Presentation, Level 2, Yoselin Peña and Andrea Marquez, “Ingrained Racism,” first place silver medal.

— Chapter Service Project Display, Level 2, Elizabeth Sheppard-Hein, Mariana Varela and Azury Chaparro Rangel, “Covers for Cuties,” first place silver medal.

— Professional Presentation, Level 2, Max Kleve, “Managing Emotions,” second place silver medal.

— Chapter Service Project Portfolio, Level 2, Leslie Carrasco and Aspyn Kinnie, “Thanking MMH,” second place silver medal.

Holyoke also competed in the Chapter Service Project Display, Level 3, “Survivor Buckets,” with members Amy Mackay, Rylee Oakley and Abby Gutierrez, who earned a third place silver medal.
