Alma Alejandre wins statewide art award

Holyoke eighth-grader Alma Alejandre was one of three students to be recognized in the artwork contest at the Colorado Association of School Boards annual convention.
A total of 168 pieces of art vied for the top spots in the elementary, middle school and high school categories. Alejandre’s vibrant colored pencil drawing of flip-flops caught the middle school judges’ eyes. A giant-sized $50 Amazon gift card was presented to her on stage in front of 1,200 people at a luncheon Friday, Dec. 7, at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.
Each school district was allowed to submit three pieces of artwork for the competition. Kristin Vieselmeyer represented Holyoke at the high school level, and Sadee Mosenteen entered a piece in the elementary contest.
