Aug. 15 registration day set for K-12 students, parents

Grades 7-12 start classes Aug. 21; K-6 starts Aug. 22 — Elementary School parent-teacher conferences Aug. 21

Back-to-school activity will take on a different look for students in Holyoke School District Re-1J this year.

For starters, registration day for parents and students on Thursday, Aug. 15, will replace the well-known back-to-school night.

Classes actually begin Wednesday, Aug. 21, for students in grades 7-12, and Thursday, Aug. 22, for K-6.

Registration sessions —  scheduled from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., Aug. 15 — will be held at each building. K-6 students register at the elementary school and 7-12 students at the JR/SR high school.

And parents, don’t forget — you’re to go to registration too.

Regardless of grade level, students are asked to use the following registration day schedule:

8-10 a.m. — Last name beginning with A-H.

10 a.m.-noon — Last name beginning with I-P.

1-3 p.m. — Last name beginning with Q-Z.

Students will be able to locate their classrooms and unpack school supplies at the elementary school and find their lockers at the JR/SR high during the registration time.

It is also the plan at both buildings to complete all user agreements, update accurate emergency contact information, obtain bus transportation pickup and drop-off times, pay for lunches and set up the  Parent Portal in Infnite Campus to be able to access grade and attendance information from home.

Students in grades 7-12 will pick up their Chromebooks/chargers, obtain their class schedules, turn in sports/activity paperwork and pay all sports/activity fees.

K-6 students and parents will obtain scheduled parent-teacher conference times for Wednesday, Aug. 21, and may pay for activity passes.

Additionally, everyone will be required to complete free and reduced-price lunch paperwork. Regardless of whether the student plans to eat breakfast and/or lunch at the school, all completed applications increase the district’s opportunity for additional funding from the state funding formula.

Student school supply lists are available online at www.hcosd.org and can be found at local retailers.

School Facebook page adds to communication

The Holyoke Re-1J School District Facebook page incorporates athletics, organizations and the district itself.

Additional sources of school information are the website at www.hcosd.org, as well as the app, “Holyoke School District, CO,” available in the app store for free for use on smart devices.

A weekly list of Dragon activity schedules is sent via email from the school district. To sign up for the list, send an email to baumgartnerjo@hcosd.org.

The school district’s digital presence, combined with a computerized calling system, will keep parents and students informed throughout the year. The calling system and homepage of the website will be the primary methods of communication for school closures and other announcements.
