Author Kathy Taylor expounds on trees, ‘the Hispanic world’ in bilingual presentation

Author Kathy Taylor made a stop at the local Inklings bookstore Friday afternoon, where she served as the featured writer. In addition to a book signing, she shared a bilingual presentation in Spanish and English to the local homeschool co-op containing facts about trees and excerpts from two of her novels.

Taylor’s works, “Through the Rearview Mirror” and “Trees and Other Witnesses,” paint literary pictures of her experiences and those of others who touched her heart. She and her husband currently live off grid in the Colorado mountains, where – after retiring as a Spanish linguistics professor – she continues to grow in her knowledge of language and Hispanic culture. Inklings owner Brittany Daniel came across Taylor when she reached out to the Colorado Authors League.

The event held many activities for the nearly 20 homeschooled children in attendance, some of whom spoke Spanish. To start, each child drew a picture of a tree that carried a special meaning to them. As a child, Taylor said, she remembered playing among the branches of her Elephant Tree, named by her for its gray birch bark. This became her favorite tree, due to its “almost alive” nature.
